Mr. Jim Fugle, a seminarian who happens to be a volunteer at RTLC accompanied them. The day started with a tour of St. Adalbert’s Basilica by Lorraine Chojnicki the parish secretary. Everyone was impressed with its beauty. The tour was followed by serving meals, washing dishes, packing pantry bags and working in the thrift stores. It was exciting to witness the care and concern that high school students apply to the job at hand, as well as the enthusiasm and high energy level that follows them throughout the building. Smiles were plentiful throughout the Center. |

After serving others, the students and advisors were the last to enjoy the meal prepared by Fran Zalewski. Dave Richards, a seminarian who volunteers at RTLC, joined the group for lunch and the discussion that followed. Sometimes the voices were quiet and thoughtful; minutes later they were filled with laughter; but either way, it was evident that the experience made a difference. The learning that occurred included the brain, muscles, eyes and heart. It is my hope that this day of service and learning will become an annual event and involve many more young men. |
